Title: St James, Ashurst
Description: Although parts are older, the main building dates from the twelfth century. Featuring a king-post roof spanning the nave and aisles, the church is constructed of flint and roofed in parts with local Horsham slate. Between the nave and chancel is a simple oak beam instead of the more usual arch and found in the churchyard is the grave of Margaret Fairless Barber; she wrote the Roadmender stories under the name Michael Fairless.
