St Leonard, Seaford

Places Of Worship

Title: St Leonard, Seaford
Description: The church of St Leonard dates from the early eleventh century, although there have been many additions since that time. Norman arches can be found in the north, south and west walls of the tower and a number of the outer base walls are of Norman origin. Brown patches on some of the stonework are burn marks; these are the results of attacks by the French during the Hundred Years War, which started in 1338. Although there are no traces of building works during the thirteenth, fourteenth and fifteenth centuries, the church has been periodically enlarged since then.
