Title: St Mary, Sompting
Description: This Saxon church is unique in England. It features a tower common to the Rhine area of Germany with a 'Rhenish helm' garbled cap though oak shingles cover the original Saxon gables. The Knights Templars rebuilt the nave and chancel in 1154 and the chancel arch is an important example of Saxon architecture.
